Elvington May 2012

For Elvington 2012, Corporal Lycett sends this report.
Back at Elvington again. We had a big turn out for what is one of the main shows in the area. The weather was so hot it was difficult to do much more than try and keep cool. The order of the day was shirt sleeves from breakfast to supper. We had quite a good display along the usual lines. We had two Jeeps, the dinning shelter and the 14 man tent. We had a small weapons display which, thanks to Darren, included a real Piat. As always we had lots of interest. There seemed to be more displays this year and room was very tight. There was a fly past by a Spit but just on the Saturday.

Blyth May 2012

For the first event of the season, Corporal Lycett sends this report.

This was the first time that the East Yorks have displayed at Blyth. The venue was a first world war coastal battery site. The group arrived on the Friday evening to a very cold and windy site. It was so cold that spirits quickly fell, however on Saturday morning it had warmed up a little bit and most importantly the wind had dropped. 

We decided to stick it out and soon got a simple display set out. As the day wore on it got warmer and warmer. By Sunday morning the weather had changed from winter to heat wave. Sunday was quite busy and we had a lot of interest from the many locals who turned out for the event.

Annual Christmas Bash

The groups annual Christmas get together in York, filled with catching up, nattering and the odd pint (or two)! Here are some photos Anna took throughout the evening, and more can be found here.

Pickering Oct 2011

Once again were were billeted at the very pleasant Pickering Castle and warmly welcomed by our English Heritage Hosts.This is an excellent event to end the season with. We had a good turn out and the weather was very kind to us. We had the usual table top and weapons displays. Corporal Dixon and Private Pyper were kept busy answering the many questions about the various weapons on show. Corporal Dixon also had a couple of drill sessions with some of the younger visitors. The training display was run twice on each day. The scenario was expanded this year to include a little bit of house clearing. This extended the run time of the display and was a bit more understandable for the crowd. Commentaries were given on Saturday by Private Pyper and on Sunday by Corporal Dixon.

Thanks to the ladies who manned the display and help man the enemy position.
